SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engineering surveys and is intended, in particular, to determine the plastic range (rolling and flow) of soils. Essence: determination of specific resistance of two samples of the same soil to immersion of the tapered indenter with an angle of 30° at the top is carried out under different humidity and determination of soil moisture at the rolling edge under specific soil resistance to immersion of the tapered indenter equal to 186.3 kPa and at the flow range at specific soil resistance to the immersion of tapered indenter equal to 7.5 kPa is performed. First sample is moistened to a moisture content equal to the soil moisture with full water saturation, and the second sample is moistened to a moisture content which is 1.2 times greater than the moisture content of the first sample. Each of the samples is placed in a cylindrical chamber with minimum diameter of 60 mm and minimum height of 45 mm and placed coaxially with the tip of the indenter cone, and immersion of the tapered indenter is carried out at a constant rate of 120 mm/min, to a depth of up to 35 mm and with the registration of the soil resistance value at every 0.01 mm of immersion of the tapered indenter with maximum resolution of 2.0 N. In each of the obtained sets of values of the first and second soil sample resistance to the immersion of the tapered indenter the range of invariant values of soil resistance to the immersion of the tapered indenter are selected by condition, and determination of the soil moisture at the rolling range and at the flow range is carried out according to the formulas.

EFFECT: technical result: simplification and acceleration of determining the range of soil plasticity, excluding the influence on the results of determining subjective factors.
