SUBSTANCE: method of a countercurrent ion exchange system operation comprising a plurality of vertically aligned columns with a packed layer of ion exchange resin comprising an upstream column with a packed layer of a cation exchange resin, with an upper chamber with a weak-acid cation exchange resin and a lower chamber with a strong-acid cation exchange resin and a downstream column with a packed layer of anion exchange resin, with an upper chamber with a strong-base anion exchange resin and a lower chamber with a weak-base anion exchange resin, which is in fluid communication with the upstream column. Both columns have upper and lower openings for fluid entry and exit, includes the following stages for introducing the feed liquid into the upper opening of the upstream column so that the feed liquid flows down through the column and exits through the lower opening, and then flows into the lower opening of the downstream column and moves upward to exit through the upper opening, interrupting the input of the feed liquid, introducing the first regenerate into the upper opening of the downstream column so that the regenerate flows in down through the column and exits through the lower opening, and introducing the second regenerate into the lower opening of the upstream column so that the regenerate flows up through the column and exits through the upper opening, and repeating the stages.
EFFECT: invention provides an improved countercurrent ion exchange system.
