FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: process is carried out by passing a gas mixture comprising hydrogen sulphide and oxygen over the catalyst. The catalyst has the following composition, in terms of oxide, wt %: Fe2O3 (36.0-85.0); P2O5/B2O5, silicates and/or aluminosilicates (1.0-40.0). In addition, the catalyst may comprise, at least, one compound of metal selected from the group: cobalt, manganese, zinc, chromium, copper, nickel, titanium, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, in terms of oxide 0.1 to 30.0 wt %. The catalyst is characterized by low sensitivity to the content of water vapour and to the change in the ratio O2/H2S, inertness with respect to deep oxidation reactions at temperatures of 200-400°C.
EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of the sulfur recovery process from gases of various origins.
