FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: during erythrocyte preservation for subsequent transfusion, the following steps are performed: a. reception of erythrocyte mass; b. placement of the said erythrocyte mass in a container, wherein the said container is permeable to gases and substantially contains an erythrocyte mass; c. oxygen removal from the erythrocyte mass during while the mass is in the container, wherein the said oxygen is removed from the erythrocyte mass and the said container by oxygen diffusion through the said container; d. exposure of the said erythrocytic mass in the container to a system of gases by diffusion of the said gas system through the said container and interaction with the said erythrocyte mass in the said container, the said gas system including xenon, wherein the said step of exposure of the erythrocyte mass to the said gas system is performed after the said step of oxygen removal from the said erythrocyte mass, wherein the said xenon in the gas system is at a concentration greater than xenon concentration that occurs naturally in the earth's atmosphere, and c. maintaining of the said erythrocytic mass that was exposed to the system of gases at a temperature above the freezing point of the said erythrocyte mass and to a temperature of 30°C, wherein the said erythrocyte mass can be kept in the said container for at least 42 days without significant loss of erythrocyte quality such that the said erythrocyte mass in the said container can be used for subsequent transfusion.

EFFECT: invention allows to improve the quality of the preserved erythrocyte mass.
