FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: polymer composite for neutron shielding includes a binder, titanium hydride, and a modifier with the following component ratio: polyalkanimide 27-33 wt %; titanium hydride with borosilicate coating - 65.8-72.5 wt %; liquid hydrophobizing 136-41 - 0.5-1.2 wt %. The method of producing a polymer composite for neutron shielding involves mixing the components, charging into a mould and pressing. Preliminary, the titanium hydride is ground in a ball mill for 27-35 minutes, the borosilicate coating is applied to it, modified by co-milling with a solution of a liquid of hydrophobizing 136-41 for 4-7 minutes and dried at 145-152°C for not less than 90 minutes, and mixing is carried out with polyalkanimide for 5-8 minutes, loading - in a mould heated to 200-220°C, with further heating to a temperature of 300-305°C and with a holding time of, at least, 35 minutes and compressed by hot pressing at a specific pressure of 1 GPa.
EFFECT: inventions make it possible to increase the thermal stability, the strength characteristics of the polymer composite, and its neutron-protective properties.
