FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: essence: thermal anomalies of the earth surface and atmosphere are registered by a passive microwave radiometer installed on board a spacecraft. Ground processing of the received data is carried out, including preliminary processing and thematic processing. Preliminary data processing includes the calibration and geo-referencing of data containing radio brightness temperatures. Thematic data processing includes the following operations: determination, at the time of the surface temperature measurement, the velocity and direction of the near-surface wind, vertical profiles of humidity and the atmosphere temperature, and also integral humidity; determination of surface and atmospheric temperatures, taking into account hydrometeorological parameters; making a conclusion on the increase of seismic activity in the investigated area by exceeding the difference between the obtained and average climatic temperatures of the surface and atmosphere of the threshold value. Moreover, the threshold value of temperatures is revealed on the basis of a long-term analysis of the variations, carried out taking into account seasonal features for each seismically active region taken separately.
EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of identifying areas of increased seismic activity.
