SUBSTANCE: hair cutting device is disclosed that includes a laser beam generator (2) and a polarization controller (6) configured to polarize the laser beam (10) and substantially align the polarization of the laser beam with the longitudinal axis of the hair to be cut. In addition, a hair cutting method using a laser beam for cutting hair is disclosed. The method includes generating and polarizing the laser beam in order to substantially align the polarization of the laser beam with the longitudinal axis of the hair to be cut.
