FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: connection of steel elements is carried out by arc welding in protective gas atmosphere. At least one of the elements to be connected is an element of thick-sheet steel with Zn-Al-M - based alloy coating applied by the method of immersion into the melt. A protective gas based on argon gas, gaseous helium or a gaseous mixture of argon and helium with the concentration of carbon dioxide CCO2 (vol. %) satisfying the following expression (2) depending on the heat input Q (J/cm) at welding: 0 ≤ CCO2 ≤ 2900Q-0.68 (2) is used for welding.

EFFECT: provided excellent resistance to brittle cracking without limitation of the steel types for the base steel for production of steel sheet with metal coating.
