SUBSTANCE: image forming device includes an image carrier adapted to carry a powder image, a movable endless electrically conductive intermediate transfer belt configured to allow the powder image to be transferred thereto during the primary transfer from the image bearing element, the first and the second tension elements configured to pull the intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer element that contacts the intermediate transfer belt, configured to transfer secondary powder images from the intermediate transfer belt onto the recording material, a contact element contacting with the intermediate transfer belt and facing an image bearing element, via the intermediate transfer belt, and an element to maintain voltage, which is connected with the contact element. The image carrier contacts the intermediate transfer belt between the first tension element and the second tension element with respect to the moving direction of the intermediate transfer belt, the contact element is located on the side of the intermediate transfer belt, on which the image carrier is located and contacts the intermediate transfer belt between the first tension element and the second tension element relative to the movement direction of the intermediate transfer belt, and the potential of the contact element is maintained equal or greater than a predetermined potential according to a current that flows from the secondary transfer element to the intermediate transfer belt.

EFFECT: preventing the change of the primary transfer potential in the primary transfer region and in providing satisfactory characteristics of the primary transfer, when the current flows from the current-carrying element to the intermediate transfer belt.
