The network video recorder contains tuning data and a module configured to store the setting data in the surveillance cameras and/or the ability to receive tuning data stored in the surveillance cameras. New network video recorder, network-attached, gets the saved setting data for plug and play without participation or with minimal participation of the staff. In the embodiments of the invention, these settings are distributed among a plurality of surveillance cameras and can be stored in an encrypted format.
