SUBSTANCE: article is proposed comprising an end brought to the mouth and a distal end, the smoking article comprising a heat source; an aerosol-forming substrate; an air flow guiding element comprising a breathable segment downstream of the aerosol-generating substrate, the air flow guiding element defines the air flow passage and at least one air inlet to draw air into the breathable segment, wherein the air flow passage contains the first portion and the second portion, the first portion of the air flow passage extending from at least one air inlet to the aerosol-generating substrate and the second portion of the air flow passage extending from the aerosol-generating substrate to the end of the smoking article to be brought to the mouth where the first portion of the air flow passage is delimited by the low-drag portion of the breathable segment extending in the vicinity of the at least one air inlet to the upstream end of the breathable segment, and the breathable segment further comprises a high-drag portion extending from the region in the vicinity of at least one air inlet to the downstream end of the breathable segment, and the resistance ratio of the high-drag portion to the low-drag portion is more than 1:1 and less than 50:1.

EFFECT: aerosol composition is not substantially dependent on the user's drag regimes; no burning or pyrolysis of the aerosol-forming substrate occurs in the widest range of smoking conditions.
