SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-generating article. Aerosol-generating article (100) comprises heat source (102), aerosol-forming substrate (104) downstream of heat source (102) and element (106) for directing an air flow downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate. Air flow guide element comprises air-permeable segment (128), wherein air-permeable segment (128) forms cavity (109). Aerosol-generating article (100) further comprises at least one air inlet (132) to allow air to be drawn into aerosol-generating article (100). Aerosol-generating article (100) comprises a first air flow path and a second air flow path. First airflow path extends from at least one air inlet (132) through aerosol-forming substrate (104), into the far end of cavity (129). Second airflow path extends from at least one air inlet (132) through air-permeable segment (128) into cavity (129) at a point downstream of the far end of cavity (129). It is possible to prevent the passage of air along the air flow channels provided through the combustible heat source, as a result, activation of combustion of the combustible heat source during puffing by the user is prevented or suppressed.
EFFECT: preventing spikes in temperature of the aerosol-forming substrate during puffing by the user.
