FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves reduction of gadolinium fluoride with molten aluminium of a charge containing gadolinium fluoride, potassium chloride, chloride and sodium fluoride. The exchange process is carried out at a temperature of 750°C in containers of glass carbon in inert gas atmosphere. The resulting melt is held for at least 6 hours.
EFFECT: reducing the number of operations, reducing energy costs, and convenience for separating the final product from slag.
