FIELD: machine engineering.
SUBSTANCE: device for combusting fuels and heating process media comprises a heat exchanger of heating the process medium, a heat exchanger of "oxidation/air products in the first catalytic section", several catalytic sections and a starting preheater. During operation of the device, a portion of air is heated by oxidation products in the heat exchanger of "oxidation/air products to the first catalytic section" to the lower temperature limit of catalyst operation and supplied to the first catalytic section which is supplied with fuel in amount providing oxidation temperature of products thereafter below the upper temperature limit of catalyst operation. Then the oxidation products are mixed with cold air to reduce temperature of the mixture to the lower temperature limit of the catalyst operation, and the process is repeated in the subsequent sections. After the last catalytic section, the products of complete oxidation of fuel are cooled in the heat exchanger of "oxidation/air products in the first catalytic section", in the heat exchanger for heating process medium supplied with counter-current, and discharged. When starting the device, the air supplied to the first catalytic section is heated in the starting preheater.
EFFECT: reduced metal capacity and increased explosion safety.
