SUBSTANCE: method of encoding a video data signal for the use with a multi-view stereoscopic display device is provided, wherein the method comprises: providing the first scene image visible from an input observation point, providing a depth map associated with the first image, providing preferences indicating a preferred position of the central view for the use with a visualization based on the first image and the depth map, wherein the preferred position of the central view and the input reference point refers to the baseline between the control left view and the control right view, and generating a video data signal comprising encoded data representing the first image, the depth map, and the preference data.
EFFECT: effective visualization of image-based and depth-based content.
