METHOD FOR DETERMINATION OF SAGITTAL SIZE OF COMPRESSING FACTOR Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61B6/03

Abstract RU 2640451 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method for determination of the compressing factor sagittal size (CFSS), which causes spinal canal narrowing and spinal cord compression, involves obtaining of a MR-tomogram (MRI) of the damaged vertebral site in the lateral projection. On MRI, the length of the perpendicular constructed from the posterior part of the spinal canal ventral wall is determined, in the region of canal narrowing, to the line connecting the posterior-lower edge of the vertebral column superior relative to the damaged vertebra and the posterior-upper edge of the underlying vertebra. CFSS is determined, reflecting the degree of spinal canal ventral wall deformation, calculating it as the absolute difference between the size of said perpendicular and the width of the epidural space located between the spinal canal ventral wall and the spinal cord, under or above the compressed area. A version of the method is determination (on MRI) of the perpendicular length, constructed from the posterior part of the spinal canal ventral wall, in the region of canal narrowing, to the line connecting the posterior-lower edge of the superior vertebral column and the posterior-upper edge of the underlying vertebra. CFSS is calculated by the following formula: , where CFSS is the sagittal size of the compressing factor, %, a is perpendicular dimension, mm, b1 is width of the epidural space above the narrowed part of the spinal canal, mm, b2 is width of the epidural space under the narrowed section of the spinal canal, mm.

EFFECT: method provides accurate determination of the sagittal size of the compressing factor and, accordingly, the degree of damage, deformation, anteroposterior compression of the spine and spinal cord, which allows to plan a specific type of treatment for this pathology.
