SUBSTANCE: method for identification of the source of ground currents is as follows: the electrochemical protection means of the pipeline are disconnected and synchronously the pipe-to-ground potential differences are measured at least two points of the surveyed pipeline section. The graph of the change in the potential difference over time is analysed on the grounds of the unity of the source of the stray current acting on the surveyed area, absence in the measured difference of the potential of the variable component with frequencies multiples of the industrial frequency of the alternating current network, the source of the stray current is identified. In this case, the extremum points are determined on the graph of the variation of the potential difference with time, determine the rate of increase of the potential difference until an extremal value is established, determine the correlation coefficient between arrays of extremum values and the rate of increase of the potential difference. Then, the spectral analysis of the potential difference graph is performed, with a value of the detected correlation coefficient modulo 0.9 and at a frequency of oscillations with the largest amplitude from 0.0001 Hz to 0.001 Hz, it is believed that the source of the stray current is associated with the effect of geomagnetic variations.

EFFECT: increasing the reliability of the method for identifying the source of ground currents.
