FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of defects in insulation coatings of steel structures and can be used in assessing the state of passive protection of all types of pipelines. Method for determining points of through defects of a protective coating of a pipeline includes measuring the potential difference on the surface of the earth between two electrodes when the operator moves above the axis of the pipe and at a distance from it parallel to the axis of the pipe, recording of instrument readings at increase of amplitude to maximum, plotting of signal dependence on pipeline coordinates. Before measuring the potential difference, one end of the wire is connected to the control input in the control and measuring station, the other end of the wire is connected to the measuring device. In parallel, values of protective potential and potential difference are measured and recorded with a given pitch. Graph of the obtained values of the protective potential and the potential difference is plotted against the coordinates of the pipeline. Conclusion is made on presence and location of defects, at the same time measurement of potential difference is carried out above axis of pipeline and parallel to it at distance of two meters by one operator. Diagram of the dependence of the potential difference and the protective potential of the pipeline is plotted in common coordinates.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining a point of a through defect of a protective coating.
