FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of hydrometallurgical synthesis of high-purity substances, in particular lead tungstate PbWO4, and can be used in the production of single crystals of lead tungstate used as scintillators for high-precision electromagnetic calorimetry of high-energy particles. Method for the production of lead tungstate PbWO4 involves the interaction of the initial solutions of lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 and sodium tungstate Na2WO4, taken in equivalent amounts and in equal volumes at a given pH of the reaction medium, decanting the precipitate and washing it. The reaction medium used is distilled water, alkalized with 0.1 M solution of sodium hydroxide to pH 8-9, to dissolve sodium tungstate and distilled water, acidified with 0.1 M solution of nitric acid to pH 5-6, to dissolve lead nitrate, then the prepared solutions of the salts are added to the acetate-buffer solution with pH=5-6 at an equal volumetric rate and the washed precipitate is dried at the temperature of 200-250°C.
EFFECT: by eliminating the hydrolysis of the initial solutions of salts, the impurity formation factor is eliminated, which ensures the production of pure lead tungstate with parameters that meet the requirements for scintillation materials.
