SUBSTANCE: electrochromic device control means applies the control voltage to the busbars of the thin film optically switchable device. The applied control voltage is applied at a level that controls the transition across the entire surface of the optically switchable device, but does not damage the devices. This applied voltage creates an effective voltage at all locations on the external surface of the device, the value of which is in a limited range. The upper limit of this range is located safely below the voltage at which the device can suffer damage or performance degradation that could affect its performance in the short term or for a long time. On the lower surface of this range, there is an effective voltage at which the transition between the optical states of the device occurs relatively quickly.

EFFECT: level of voltage applied between the bus bars is much larger than the maximum value of the effective voltage within a limited range.
