SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering and can be used to detect and recognise holograms in a video stream. Method for determining holograms in a video stream containing images in the form of documents comprises processing the video stream, where the document is stabilised, then saturation and colour tone maps are constructed, followed by analysis of colour characteristics in image areas, further,constructing histograms of the colour characteristics, taking into account the obtained data, performing estimation of the change in the colour characteristics by calculating the difference between the histograms on the current and previous frames, taking into account the estimation of the change in colour characteristics, constructing an integrated map of hologram presence estimates by combining the computed estimates for all frames of the video stream, the final areas of the holographic elements are found taking into account the map of hologram presence estimates.

EFFECT: technical result higher accuracy of determining holographic elements contained in a document that is an image of a video stream.
