SUBSTANCE: system and method configured to generate a time-stretched and/or frequency-converted signal from an input signal are described. The system includes a subband processing module configured to determine a synthesized subband signal from an analyte subband signal. Subband process module performes block-based nonlinear processing, where the amplitude of the discrete values of the signal of the synthesised subband is determined from the amplitude of corresponding discrete values of the signal of the analysed subband and a pre-determined discrete value of the signal of the analysed subband.
EFFECT: reducing the computational complexity of the encoding process with increasing the quality of the audio signal for different types of audio signal.
