FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of heterogeneous catalysis, namely, to a catalyst and a method for the production of acetaldehyde during the gas phase nonoxidizing dehydrogenation of ethanol, and can be used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries to produce acetaldehyde. Catalyst for the production of acetaldehyde during the process of nonoxidizing dehydrogenation of ethanol is described, which is a mixed metal oxide catalyst containing oxides of zinc, copper and aluminum, herewith it further comprises tungsten carbide (WC) and has a composition (wt %): ZnO 22.8; CuO 58.9; Al2O3 9.2; WC 9.1 and an increased specific surface area of 245 m2/g. Proposed method for producing acetaldehyde using the catalyst according to the invention consists in passing an ethanol not diluted with a noble gas through a catalyst bed at a temperature of 150–250 °C and a mass feed rate of ethanol of 0.5–2 h-1.

EFFECT: technical result consists in obtaining a highly efficient selective catalyst.
