FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of modifying and separating gases and can be used for extraction of hydrogen from hydrogen-containing gas mixtures during plasma decomposition of methane (methane-containing gases). Method includes decomposition of methane in electric discharge and extraction of hydrogen from decomposition products of methane – hydrogen-containing gases – by its chemical bonding in metal or alloy hydride with its further thermal dehydrogenation. Note here that hydrogen is extracted by plasma deposition of hydride coating onto carrier. Device for implementing the above method includes a metal vacuum-tight housing with plasma sources for decomposing methane and depositing hydride coatings on a carrier, devices for desorption of hydrogen from hydride coatings, systems of vacuumizing and gas puffing. At that, rectangular cross-section body is used, which includes two linear and two curved sections arranged alternately and forming closed configuration, wherein sections have same length, and linear sections have in both ends separating vacuum gates.

EFFECT: obtaining hydrogen which does not require purification, low cost of extraction and storage of hydrogen.
