FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, particularly vertebrology, and can be used to determine the duration of the second stage of an operation when performing two-stage operative treatment of the spine. To this end, after clinical and radiological assessment of the condition of the patient, application of an external fixation device and performance of anterior spondylodesis after 2 weeks in the patient's blood, method includes determining using any available means the concentration of the C-reactive protein, and at C-reactive protein concentration of 0 to 5 mg/l inclusively, a low risk of incomplete bone consolidation of bone tissue is assumed in the vertebral motor segment and a decision is made to conduct the second stage of the operation – anterior spondylodesis, and with C-reactive protein concentration level of more than 5 mg/l, there is a high risk of complications, and the second stage is postponed until the concentration of the C-reactive protein stabilises.

EFFECT: method enables to determine the optimal time for the second stage of the operation due to a more accurate forecast of the risk of incomplete consolidation of the spine, with simple execution thereof.
