FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical engineering, namely to internal combustion engines equipped with exhaust gas recirculation systems. Method for engine operation includes the determining a cold start condition. If cold start conditions are determined not to be present: prior to combustion, a first amount of fuel is injected into the cylinder dedicated for exhaust gases recirculation. After combustion and during an expansion and/or exhaust stroke directly a second amount of fuel is injected into the cylinder dedicated for exhaust gases recirculation. If cold start conditions are determined, a third amount of fuel is injected into the cylinder dedicated for exhaust gases recirculation prior to combustion. After the combustion is effected and during or almost during the opening of the exhaust valve, a fourth amount of fuel is injected into the cylinder dedicated for exhaust gases recirculation. During the cold start conditions the lean fuel-air ratio is maintained before combustion in a cylinder dedicated for exhaust gases recirculation. Variants of the method for operating the engine are also disclosed.
EFFECT: technical result consists in increasing the flammability of the mixture of air, fuel and EGR gases.
