FIELD: meteorology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to marine hydrometeorology and can be used to determine sea ice drift field. Method for determining the drift field of sea ice means combining a pair of consecutive satellite images of the same area of the ice surface, combining fixed parts of the images, providing the images with mutually exclusive light or color contrasts. Herewith the drift direction is determined as the ratio of the transverse component of the velocity to the longitudinal component of the velocity of the drifting object. Distance traveled as per the displacement of points of the drifting object characterizing the local maximum of the drifting object heights relative to the landmarks is determined by building Hausdorff metrics.

EFFECT: technical result of the claimed invention is an increase in the reliability of the determination of the ice drift when images of the ice are combined on the photographs.
