FIELD: fire safety; chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aerosol-forming volumetric fire extinguishing compositions and methods for their preparation. Composition comprises an alkali metal nitrate as an oxidising agent, a novolak type phenol-formaldehyde resin and an epoxy resin as a combustible binder, at least one salt of an alkali metal and a carboxylic acid as additional fuel, simultaneously serving as a coolant, and as the combustion modifier, cobalt (II) nitrate with promoting additives of aluminium oxide and copper oxide at the following component ratio, wt%: combustible binder – 6–11, additional fuel-coolant – 4–15, cobalt nitrate – 2–5, aluminium oxide – 1–3, copper oxide – 1–3, oxidiser – the balance. Composition is prepared by mixing the oxidising agent and the additional fuel-coolant to form a 1st mixture, separately mixing the cobalt nitrate with aluminium oxide to obtain a 2nd mixture, also separately preparing the epoxy resin by adding a solvent therein and mixing with the hardener to obtain a 3rd mixture, having a viscosity providing wettability of the dry components, then mixing the 1st and 2nd mixtures, whereupon the 3rd mixture is added, the resulting mixture is mixed with the phenol-formaldehyde resin and concurrently with the copper oxide and dried at a temperature providing polymerisation of the epoxy resin and removal of the solvent.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is the reduction of toxic substances in the combustion products of the aerosol-forming composition for fire extinguishing, not only in the combustion zone of the composition, but also beyond the nozzle section of the extinguishing aerosol generator for fire extinguishing.
