SUBSTANCE: discloses methods for applying to a subject a transdermal delivery device configured to deliver a non-sedative amount of a dexmedetomidine-based composition. Non-active amount of the dexmedetomidine-based composition is applied to the skin of the subject and held in contact with the subject in such a manner as to deliver the non-sedative amount of dexmedetomidine to the subject. Also disclosed are transdermal delivery devices containing a non-sedative amount of dexmedetomidine sufficient for the practical implementation of the methods, as well as kits containing transdermal delivery devices.
EFFECT: subject remains conscious and is able to react during the entire period of transdermal administration of dexmedetomidine to the subject.
