SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to neurology, and can be used to treat pain in a subject. Method comprises applying, on the skin surface of a non-sedated patient, a transdermal delivery device containing a dexmedetomidine-based composition containing dexmedetomidine, solubility enhancer and an acrylate pressure adhesive with hydroxyl functional groups, and a protective layer in contact with said dexmedetomidine-based composition formulated to passively deliver an amount of dexmedetomidine effective to relieve pain to a subject experiencing pain. Also provided is a transdermal delivery device and a kit containing two or more transdermal delivery devices, adapted for use treat pain in a subject.

EFFECT: group of inventions enables to passively deliver to a subject an amount of dexmedetomidine effective for relieving pain without significant sedation.
