FIELD: pipelines.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to pipe-making and can be used on piercing mills for rolling shell casings with water-cooled mandrels. Water-cooled mandrel of the piercing mill for the manufacture of sleeves is mounted on the tip of a hollow rod with a coolant supply tube. Mandrel is made with a cavity of variable cross-section, formed by coaxial cylindrical surfaces between which conical sections are located. Diameter and length of the cylindrical section of the cavity are made in direct proportion to the diameter of the liner and back from the thickness of its wall and can be calculated by the formula. Length of the portion of the supply tube extended relative to the end of the rod tip, is not less than half the length of the working part of the mandrel, and the diameter of the supply pipe is determined by the formula.

EFFECT: invention provides an increase in the resistance of the mandrels of the piercing mill by increasing the cooling efficiency.
