FIELD: medical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an automaton for homogenising potentially infected medical waste and a method of processing such waste by means of said automaton. Automaton 10 comprises vessel (12) mounted on chassis (21) and intended for loading wastes, crushing means (38) mounted at the bottom of the vessel, heating means for heating the waste with a view to disinfecting same, and computerised control means (16) for the crushing and heating means. Heating means comprise at least one microwave generator, the output of which is connected to one end of a waveguide, the second end of which enters the vessel. Generator is held by support means separate from the chassis or mounted on the chassis by means which absorb the vibrations from the vessel while the waste is being crushed. Method comprises loading waste into vessel 12, crushing the waste by rotation of a blade at predetermined speed V1 with release of heat, which heats the waste, emitting microwaves into the vessel while mixing the waste by rotating the blade at speed V3, which is lower than speed V1, for heating the waste and keeping it at a disinfection temperature for a predetermined time, and extracting the waste from vessel 12.
