FIELD: oil and gas industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the water content (concentration) determining methods in oily emulsions and sediments, in waste oil products and other oil containing wastes (oil sludges), as well as in soils and grounds from oil products spillage sites or territories with a high level of pollution with hydrocarbons for other reason. Method can be used in industrial, environmental, ecological and scientific and research laboratories, as well as for control over the oil-containing emulsions, deposits (oil sludges) composition in oil pipelines, tubing, in tanks, etc. Method envisages carrying out of an anhydrous copper sulfate CuSO4 exothermic reaction with the test sample, calculation of the difference between the test sample initial temperature and its maximum temperature that is achieved as a result of the CuSO4 hydration reaction, contained in the sample with water, and water content determination according to the graph of the of the indicated temperature difference dependence on the water content in the sample. Graph is preliminarily obtained using the reference samples of known composition containing, %: sand 9.0–11.0, water 0.5–6.0, anhydrous oil is the balance. For each of them performing the reaction with anhydrous CuSO4, calculating the difference between the initial and the maximum temperature reached as a result of the reaction and on the basis of the data obtained for the reference samples, graphically represent the relationship between the calculated temperature difference and the water content.
EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of the water content determining in oil-containing emulsions and deposits of complex composition, oil sludges, while expanding the range of determined water contents.
