FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: method of breaking ice cover is proposed, consisting in attaching a vessel to ice by means of a pair of anchors and cables, followed by filling ballast tanks with seawater and creating a positive buoyancy force due to a container of an elastic material, located under the ice cover in the middle between the anchors, periodically filled with compressed air, and then ventilated at a frequency equal to the frequency of the resonant flexural-gravity waves excited in the ice cover by the dynamic load.

EFFECT: increasing the thickness of the ice cover to be broken.
