FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process of obtaining of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-O-isopropylcarbamate (Formula I), which is used as a plant growth regulator, and also increases their resistance to stress factors. According to the process of the invention, a reaction is carried out of diisopropyl carbonate obtained with isopropyl alcohol and triphosgene in the presence of pyridine used as an acceptor of hydrogen chloride, with monoethanolamine at 60–100 °C in presence of strong bases selected from sodium methylate, or sodium isopropylate, or potassium t-butoxide, or sodium butoxide.

EFFECT: proposed method is convenient, environmentally safe and allows to obtain the product in good yield and purity.
