FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing O-isopropyl-N-(3-chlorophenyl)carbamate, which is used as an active substance of herbicides in weed control, as well as a plant growth regulator which inhibits sprouting of potato tubers during storage. This method involves reacting m-chloroaniline with dimethyl carbonate in the presence of a catalyst – dibutyltine oxide in an autoclave made from titanium, while stirring at temperatures of 120–180 °C for 3–10 hours. Obtained O-methyl-N-(3-chlorophenyl)carbamate is re-esterified with isopropanol under the action of sodium isopropylate to obtain the end product.
EFFECT: environmentally safe and waste-free method of producing O-isopropyl-N-(3-chlorophenyl)carbamate with possibility of recycling unreacted substances and catalysts at both stages of the process.
