FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of measuring distances to an object by means of electromagnetic waves. Optical device for determining distances to an object includes a radiation source to a modulated binary optical signal object, a probe sequence generator, a clock generator, an optical receiver operating in a non-linear mode, a first signal accumulation unit, a calculating unit of the correlation function of the reference and received signals, the second signal accumulation unit, the demultiplexer, the threshold detection module of the signal, the distance calculation module to the detected object by the time delay of the reflected signal, module for calculating the time delay of the reflected signal. Optical device also includes a signal conditioning module at each clock cycle n corresponding to a value of 0, 1 or -1, a conjunction unit, a sync pulse generating unit at the beginning of the sounding cycle, a sounding cycle counting unit, a probe sampling and processing unit.

EFFECT: technical result consists in increasing the dynamic range of a lidar using signals modulated by pseudo-noise sequences as probing signals.
