FIELD: gas analysis.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of gas analysis and can be used for recording and measuring oxygen content in gas mixtures, in particular in nitrogen, using an electrochemical cell based on a proton-conducting solid electrolyte. Amperometric method for measuring the oxygen concentration in gas mixtures according to the invention is that an electrochemical cell is placed in the flow of the analyzed gas mixture with a gas-tight cavity formed by disks from a solid proton-conducting electrolyte with electrodes on opposite surfaces of one of the disks, to which a DC voltage is applied in the range of 0.8–1.2 V, with the supply of a negative pole to the internal electrode, whereby electrolysis of the water vapor present in the analyzed gas and pumping the hydrogen obtained from the electrolysis gas from the analyte gas stream into the cell cavity through the electrochemical chain is carried out: external electrode – solid electrolyte – internal electrode, while in the process of achieving a steady state, when the diffusion flux of products of interaction of hydrogen pumped into the cavity of the cell and the oxygen in it becomes equal to the incoming flow of the analyzed gas, the limiting current flowing through the cell is measured and the oxygen concentration in the gas being analyzed is determined from the value of the limiting current corresponding to the hydrogen content spent on the interaction with oxygen.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to measure quite easily and reliably the oxygen content in gases, including at temperatures of 350 °C and higher, and to expand the field of practical application of solid electrolytes having a proton conductivity.
