FIELD: physics, nuclear physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the production of a radioactive isotope nickel-63, used in the production of beta-voltaic current sources. Method includes obtaining from a nickel source a nickel target enriched in nickel-62 to reach a content of 98 % or more, irradiation of the target in the reactor and enrichment of the irradiated product in the light fraction. To the light fraction, the initial nickel enriched in the nickel-62 isotope is added until it reaches 98 % or more, and is used to make a secondary nickel target. Remaining heavy fraction is transferred to the metal and used to produce beta radiation sources used in beta-voltaic current sources. After irradiation, the nickel target solution is subjected to radiochemical purification from copper-65 and gamma-active isotopes, in particular, iron-59 and cobalt-60.

EFFECT: technical result consists in the most complete loading of the reactor cell with the nickel-62 isotope and the increase in the amount of the nickel-63 radionuclide produced.
