FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method and device for transdermal delivery for the treatment of pseudobulbar affect. The method includes once daily applying a transdermal delivery device containing about 5 to about 100 mg of dextromethorphan to the subject's skin. The device for transdermal delivery is a single-layer patch with a drug in the adhesive, where the specified single layer contains dextromethorphan, homogeneously dispersed in the adhesive, where the adhesive layer contains the adhesive in an amount of about 65 to about 85 wt.%, the drug in an amount of about 2 to about 12 wt.%, the penetration enhancer, which is isopropyl myristate, in an amount of about 6 to about 12% of the mass. The transdermal delivery device contains dextromethorphan as the only drug. The adhesive is an acrylate copolymer adhesive selected from polyacrylate vinyl acetate copolymers.
EFFECT: group of inventions allows to deliver a sufficient amount of dextromethorphan to achieve a therapeutically effective plasma concentration of dextromethorphan, while minimizing the amount of dextrofan metabolite, without requiring the use of CYP2D6 inhibitors, such as quinidine, and without requiring a determination of whether the subject is a slow metabolizer, an intermediate metabolizer, or a fast metabolizer (that is, without requiring determination of the patient's genotype).
