FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the triamyl citrate synthesis process, a product with good plasticizing properties, having a flash point of 205–210 °C, hazard class 4, due to which it can be used as a non-toxic plasticizer for PVC compositions in children's toys, medical products, cosmetics, food packaging, etc. Set task is solved by the citric acid esterification with amyl alcohol in toluene environment in the presence of concentrated acid catalysts (96 % sulfuric acid, 99.9 % n-toluenesulfonic acid and 75 % orthophosphoric acid), where the reaction is carried out under optimal conditions: temperature interval 110–115 °C, acid:alcohol molar ratio 1÷4.5–5, reaction time is 1.5–5.2 hours. Citric acid conversion is ~95–98 %, triamyl citrate yield is ~96 %.

EFFECT: technical result is achieved by using of the citric acid and n-amyl alcohol as feedstock (purity of 99.9%) and the process carrying out under optimal for the acid catalysts conditions, allowing to obtain quality product not requiring expensive bleaching and filtration methods.
