SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for the atmosphere state and dynamics monitoring, precipitation integral characteristics, namely the determination of the intensity of rainfall in the surface layer of the atmosphere by the gamma radiation measured dose rate. Method for determining of the rainfall intensity in the surface layer of the atmosphere is in, that in the period of rainfall precipitation continuous measurements of gamma-radiation dose rate are made at the altitude of 1 m from the earth's surface with a stroke of at least 1 measurement in 60 s, then the gamma radiation dose rate rise time tend up to its maximum value is determined, and the intensity of rainfall in the surface layer of the atmosphere is determined from expression , where I is intensity of rainfall, m/s; is the measured dose rate of gamma radiation at time tend, Sv/s; tend is the time of the increase in the dose rate of gamma radiation to its maximum value , s; is the measured background value of dose rate of gamma radiation before the beginning of rainfall, Sv/s; k is the coefficient of absolute erosion of the rain; and is dose rate values of gamma radiation at the height of its measurement, produced by short-lived radon decay products 214Pb and 214Bi, precipitated on the earth's surface by rainfall (Sv/s) / (Bq/m3); and are average values of volumetric activity of short-lived radon decay products 214Pb and 214Bi, in the near-earth atmosphere, Bq/m3.

EFFECT: technical result is the simplification of the measurement, the possibility of monitoring, the reliability of the obtained results.
