SUBSTANCE: invention relates to meteorology and can be used to determine intensity and amount of rainfall in surface layer of atmosphere. In the period of rainfall precipitation, the beta-radiation flux density is continuously measured at a certain height from the earth's surface. Time of increase of beta radiation flux density to its maximum value is determined. Obtained values are used to calculate intensity and quantity of rainfall in the surface layer of the atmosphere.

EFFECT: high accuracy and simplification of determining intensity and quantity of rainfall.
