FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: vaccine for protecting mammals from infection with swine influenza C virus, swine influenza C virus, and a method for determining the presence of swine influenza C virus. Described vaccine includes an immunologically effective amount of inactivated swine influenza C virus. Swine influenza C virus includes a nucleic acid molecule encoding eight porcine influenza polypeptides C PB1, PB2, P3, HE, NP, M, NS1 and NS2, having amino acid sequences shown in SEQ ID NO: 12, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Method for determining the presence of swine influenza virus includes steps of: (a) amplifying one or more nucleic acid segments from a sample by using a pair of purified oligonucleotide primers, including forward (SEQ ID NO: 1) and reverse primers (SEQ ID NO: 2) to obtain an amplification product; and (b) detecting the amplification product, thereby determining the presence of the swine influenza C virus in the sample.
EFFECT: influenza C virus has a weak homology to the previously studied influenza C viruses and can infect and be transmitted between pigs, and can also be considered a human pathogen.
