SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method and apparatus for packaging product (P). Method of packaging a product arranged in support (4) comprises unrolling film (10a), transversely cutting the unrolled portion of film (10a) and preparing cut film sheets (18). Method then comprises moving cut film sheets (18) to packaging assembly (8) placed inside packaging chamber (24), keeping packaging chamber (24) open for a time sufficient to properly position number of supports (4) and corresponding number of film sheets (18) inside said packaging chamber (24). Method then comprises hermetically closing packaging chamber (24) with the film sheets held above respective support (4) and, optionally, at a distance sufficient to allow gas circulation inside support (4). Method further comprises optionally causing one or both of the following operations: gas withdrawal from hermetically closed packaging chamber (24) and gas injection of a gas mixture of controlled composition. Film sheet (18) is heat-sealed to said support (4). Cutting of film (10a) into film sheets (18) takes place outside packaging chamber (24) in a device remote from the location where the film sheets are coupled to the supports. Apparatus (1) for performing the above process is also disclosed.
EFFECT: technical result achieved by the group of inventions is to ensure the packaging of a product in conditions of a gas medium of controlled composition and to reduce the amount of material removed.
