SUBSTANCE: device for skin packaging of a product located on a substrate having a bottom and side walls, comprising a frame, a transporting unit disposed on the frame and configured to move the substrates along a predetermined path, packaging unit located on the frame and operating in a packaging station along the path. Packaging unit is configured to seal the film sheet tightly against each substrate. Device also comprises at least one perforating unit, located on the frame and operating in line with the packaging station. Unit is configured to form at least one opening in the side wall of at least one substrate, present in the packaging station, and has a perforating tool moving between a starting position, in which the tool is spaced apart from the side wall of the substrate, and the operating position, in which the tool acts on the substrate and forms at least one through hole in the side wall. Device also includes a vacuuming device configured to remove air from within the substrate from under the sheet of the film, at least in part through at least one opening. Invention also relates to a process for vacuum film packaging of a product by the device described above.
