SUBSTANCE: method of the thermal power plant gas turbine-expander power unit operation is that the atmospheric air is compressed in compressor, supplied into combustion chamber, fuel is burned, combustion products are expanded in gas turbine, gas turbine useful work is used to generate electricity, turboexpander useful work is used to drive compressor. In the gas turbine-expander power unit, regenerative air heater, booster gas compressor, and the gas turbine exhaust gases heat utilization heat exchanger are additionally applied, at that, the high-pressure gas pre-heating and the exhaust gases heat utilization heat exchangers are made gas-water ones. by of hot and cooled down coolant pipelines utilizing the heat of the exhaust gases gas-water heat exchanger is connected to the high-pressure gas pre-heating gas-water heat exchanger and to the reduced pressure gas pre-heating gas-water heat exchanger. Small part of the gas from the high-pressure gas pipeline of 1.0–0.6 MPa is compressed in booster gas compressor and with a pressure of 2.5–3 MPa supplied to the combustion chamber. Most part of the high-pressure gas is pre-heated by the hot coolant heat in the high-pressure gas pre-heating gas-water heat exchanger, expanded in turboexpander to the pressure of 0.13–0.15 MPa and temperature of 3–5 °C. Then this gas is pre-heated by the hot coolant heat in the low-pressure gas-water heat exchanger and supplied to the thermal power plant boiler units through the reduced pressure gas pipeline. Cooled down in the high and low pressure gas pre-heating gas-water heat exchangers coolant is sent to the gas turbine exhaust gases heat utilization gas-water heat exchanger for pre-heating. With the gas pressure change in the high-pressure gas pipeline, using the low-pressure gas pressure control system to change the turboexpander regulating guide vanes position and maintaining constant gas pressure in the low-pressure gas pipeline supplied to the thermal power plant boiler units.
