In the method for reducing the display brightness, a transformed gamma curve is obtained by calculating it in accordance with the original gamma curve and a predetermined coefficient. Appropriate gray-scale voltage on the transformed gamma curve is requested in accordance with the value of the pixel on the gray scale for the pixel which should be displayed. Requested halftone voltage is output to a data line corresponding to this pixel on the liquid crystal display screen at the time of scanning corresponding to this pixel.

EFFECT: technical result is to ensure that the requirements for the ambient light are met by adjusting the backlight brightness or the background colour of the user interface in the case of extremely weak ambient light and to reduce the brightness of the screen by reducing the halftone voltage on the pixel on the liquid crystal display screen in the case of extremely weak ambient light.
