SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing β-alkylmercaptoethylxanthates of potassium of general formula:

where R=CH₃, C₂H₅, C₃H₇, C₄H₉, C₅H₁₁, C₆H₁₃, C₇H₁₅, C₈H₁₇, C₉H₁₉, comprising adding ground potassium hydroxide to a solution β-oxy ethyl propyl sulfide to benzene or hexane at a temperature of 25–35 °C and mixing until alkali is completely dissolved, characterized by fact that the resulting solution is cooled to room temperature and, with good stirring, carbon disulphide is dropwise added, resulting suspension is left overnight, filtered, washed with diethyl ether, recrystallized from a mixture of hexane and acetone and dried in vacuo, wherein hexane and acetone are used as intermediates for the preparation of biologically active organophosphorus compounds having insectoacaricidal activity.
