FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment and can be used to connect and dissect tissues. Surgical cutting instrument, comprises a first jaw member and a second jaw member movably supported relative to the first jaw member for selective movement between an open position and a closed position to clamp tissue therebetween upon application of a closing motion applied to the second jaw member. Cutting member comprises a tissue cutting edge to cut the tissue clamped between the first jaw member and the second jaw member upon application of a retraction motion to the cutting member. Cutting member is movable distally in a folded configuration from a first position to a second position along the entire length of the first jaw member.
EFFECT: cutting member is configured to exit the folded configuration and assume a cutting configuration in which the sharp edge is configured to cut the tissue between the second position and the first position upon application of a retraction motion to the cutting member in a proximal direction.
